Shadow That region behind an obstruction that the radar beam is blocked from reaching. Isolated objects or terrain within the shadow behind the obstruction may show on the radar if they rise above the obstruction, but anything below that will not appear on the radar screen. If the terrain behind the obstruction rises above it within the range that is in view on the radar, then echoes will appear again marking the end of that shadow.
