embarrass

As used in Rule 36, "...in such a way as not to embarass any vessel." This is legal term, not having its commonly used meaning. In this application it refers to not hindering the navigation of another vessel. Embarrassment primarily refers to a situation where a vessel takes some action which in turn cause another vessel to deviate in such a manner that it results in that vessel colliding with another vessel even though it might not have been in danger of colliding with the vessel which embarrassed its navigation. See extended discussion in the Student Locker.
