ordinary practice of seaman This is a term used in Rule 2. It is a loose referral to general knowledge that responsible seaman would expect each other to know. It does not require special insights or training, but just the basics. See discussion of rule 2 for more detail. It has come up often in court cases. Often referred to as "the good seamanship rule."
