marine safety information Abbreviated MSI, these are bulletins broadcast by the Coast Guard or other agencies that include general information of interest to safety of navigation or related matters. Weather information as well as updates on navigation aids are included. Distribution of MSI is one goal of the GMDSS program. Samples of MSI are listed in the NAVTEX section of the Source Book also referenced under the Broadcast Notice to Mariners in the glossary under Local Notice to Mariners. See G442 for similar announcements which are just weather reports.
