Mariners Weather Log

A publication of the National Weather Service Voluntary Observing Ship Program that is one of the best resources on mariner weather available anywhere. It covers news in the field, updates on sources (rfax schedules, etc) and interesting articles on related subjects. Also included are surveys of past storms and reports from vessels that went through them along with a detailed seasonal report on hurricanes.

The publication was originally designed for professionals working in marine weather, but for the past several years it has always included so much unique information to make in worthwhile to all mariners who care about weather — at sea or on the Great Lakes, professional or recreational, power or sail.

The magazine underwent its main transition to newer format by the work of Richard DeAngelis during his tenure as editor, but each successive editor has made their own mark on the publication that just gets better with time.

Printed subscriptions are no longer available, but they are available online as PDF in full at www.vos.noaa.gov/mwl.shtml. They go back online to 1998.

In normal conditions, new issues were posted in April, August, and December, but the COVID times on top of other limitations have restricted work on the publication, which has consequently missed several issues. We are standing by to see how this valuable publication will fare in the future.
