mid-latitude

A type of rhumb-line sailing that uses the mid-latitude (Lm) defined as the average of the departure and arrival latitudes.

It also refers to the center latitude on a universal plotting sheet.

As one word, midlatitudes refers to the region on earth between the tropics and the polar regions. See also middle latitudes.
