radio frequency

Any electromagnetic wave occurring within that segment of the spectrum normally associated with some form of radio propagation. Radio frequencies are usually classified as:

VLF very low 3-30 kilohertz;
LF low 30-300 kilohertz;
MF medium 300-3000 kilohertz;
HF high 3-30 megahertz;
VHF very high 30-300 megahertz;
UHF ultra high 300-3000 megahertz;
SHF super high 3-30 gigahertz;
VHF extremely high 30-300 gigahertz.

See Radio Primer for more discussion and what navigational services employ these various frequencies along with the notes on the radios involved, etc.

VHF radio usage is described in some detail in G233. Selected HF weather broadcasts are presented in G242.
