| vapor The words vapor and gas are often used interchangeably, but a useful distinction can be made. Vapor is more frequently used for a substance that although present in the gaseous form, usually exits as a liquid or solid at room temperature. Gases are distinguished as substances that generally exist in the gaseous form at room temperature. Thus nitrogen and air are gasses, whereas water or gasoline give off vapors (water vapor, gasoline vapor). See vapor pressure and related discussion in ART-13 on humidity. |
