water vapor

The gaseous form of water. The amount of water vapor in the air varies from less than 1% in dry air up to some 4 or 5% in warm moist air, measured by volume. Note that frigid air is dry because all the water vapor is frozen into ice crystals. The actual amount of water in the air is usually crucial to the weather involving that air. Typical water vapor concentration is about 1%. See G179. See also related discussion in ART-13 on humidity.

See also dew point.

Various humidity data are presented in G248.
