wind direction The direction from which a wind is blowing. A north wind, for example, blows from the north, toward the south. A sea breeze blows from the sea, toward the land. A land breeze blows from the land, toward the sea. And so forth. Special cases in this terminology include onshore wind and offshore wind. Apparent wind or relative wind directions are often specified relative to the bow. See wind angle.
