World Meteorological Organization A specialized agency of the United Nations (often abbreviated WMO) which seeks — according to its own statement — to facilitate world-wide cooperation in the establishment of stations for meteorological and related geophysical observations of centers providing meteorological services, of systems of rapid exchange of weather information; and to promote the standardization and publication of meteorological and hydrometeorological observations and statistics; to further the application of meteorology to aviation, shipping, agriculture, and other related activities; to encourage research and training in meteorology and their international coordination.
