The process of navigating with an electronic chart system (ECS), using any form of moving-map technology, wherein the present GPS position of the vessel is continuously adjusted on an electronic image of a nautical chart as the vessel moves through the waterway. There are numerous software and hardware options and numerous forms of electronic charts. It is a trend in modern electronics to integrate some form of e-chart navigation with the radar unit.
