Relative Density

Relative Density (Specific Gravity as it used to be called) is the density of a liquid compared with the density of fresh water

ie. Relative Density = Density of the liquid/Density of fresh water

Since the density of fresh water is a unit value (1 litre / metre3) or 1 - the relative density of the substance is numerically equal to its density when SI units are used.
