If a vessel is at rest, upright and on an even keel the C of G and the C of B will both be on the centerline of the vessel.
If a weight “w” is then loaded off the centerline of the vessel, or a weight discharged from either side of the centerline, or moved transversely, the C of G of the vessel will move from G to G1, away from the centerline. In this condition the vessel cannot remain upright and will start to List
