| chart catalog Back in the days of NOAA paper charts that ended in Jan 1, 2025, these were a list or enumeration of navigational charts, sometimes with a graphic index showing chart outlines of the coverage of the various charts available. NOAA chart catalogs were at one time readily available in print from any chart store, but they those were then replaced with electronic copies in pdf format available online. They were then a valuable asset. They could be printed or stored on the navigation computer or even in phones. These catalogs were a good way to keep track of charts you have on board. Just highlight the boundaries of the ones you have. Without a paper catalog, you could do the same with a highlight tool in the pdf version. Historically the catalogs had region numbers (i.e., No 2 was Pacific Coast) but they have discontinued that numbering system. That is now all history. No more paper charts and no more chart catalogs. See starpath.com/getcharts for latest NOAA chart resources. We can still make our own paper charts (see NOAA Custom Charts) but these are not well defined and a generic list would be unique to your vessel. |
