horizontal beam width

The angular extent of the radar beam in the horizontal plane, usually 4° to 6° or even larger on typical small-craft radars and about 2° to 1° on radars with 4-foot or wider antennas. Horizontal beam width is a function of both the transmitting frequency and the width of the antenna. In small-craft radar it is determined solely by the width of the antenna. This angle determines horizontal bearing resolution. See lobe.
