cursor pick

The process of either right clicking or double clicking any point on an ENC chart to reveal all the object's located at that point and in any defined area that might include that point, along with the attributes belonging to each of those objects.

Remember when you cursor pick a symbol on a chart such as a buoy, you are actually clicking a point on the chart where that buoy is located. You will get back in the pick report information on not just the buoy (a point object), but other things at that location, such as the depth area or caution area (area objects) that might include that location, also a boundary to a traffic lane or a depth contour might also be there (line objects). Other point objects that might be at the buoy location are a light, bell or gong (fog signal object) or a daymark, which are each objects on their own.

Some programs, qtVlm is one, have a cursor pick option to group together those objects that are traditionally related such as grouping buoy, daymark, light, and fog signal objects.

See pick report, ENC object, and ENC attribute.
