| king tides This is a popular non-scientific term that seems to have come into use in 2022 and 2023, that means higher than average tides, which are normally called the spring tides. But of the spring tides, king usually refers to the larger of the springs, which can be influenced by the declination of the sun. King tides might also be predicted when the atmospheric pressure is low with an onshore wind, but these tides have usually been called storm tides. |
