tropical cyclone danger map

These are maps from the NHC showing the predicted location of a tropical cyclone (storm or hurricane) along with the extent of the 34 kts winds, which is the area they recommend we avoid. There is a map every 6 hr; the latest is named PWEK88.TIF and it can be requested by email from Saildocs. We use them by avoided 34 kt wind regions they mark. They show a 5% boundary as well as a 50% boundary. See Figure 8.7-7 in the textbook. Outside of the hurricane season these maps show high wind warnings (>35Ks) and they shift the map coverage to the Lats 0 to 30.
