absolute zero

The lowest temperature which it is possible to approach; -459.69° F or -273.16° C. The degree of motion of molecules is proportional to their temperature. The colder they are, the less they move. At absolute zero, everything stops. This is a scientific concept. Nothing in earth's weather approaches anything like this temperature. Cold arctic extremes are in the -90° F range.

Liquid nitrogen used as a coolant in laboratories and in some public displays is at -196° C; liquid Helium is at -269° C which is as close as you can get to absolute zero without elaborate equipment. See Absolute temperature.
