aneroid barometer An instrument which determines atmospheric pressure by the effect of such pressure on a thin-metal cylinder from which the air has been partly exhausted. "Aneroid" means without liquid, as opposed to a mercury barometer which contains liquid mercury metal. See WXT G101 for a diagram of an aneroid barometer. See also mercurial barometer.
