Arctic The region within the Arctic Circle, or, loosely, northern regions in general, characterized by very low temperatures. When written in lower case (arctic), an adjective meaning of or pertaining to the Arctic or to intense cold. Sometimes the region north of the tree line is roughly referred to as the Arctic.
