clockwise In the direction of rotation of the hands of a clock. A clockwise wind shift is one that shifts to the right when facing into the wind — a veer. Note that clockwise motion viewed in a mirror is counterclockwise, which shows how closely this concept is to "handedness" — a right hand appears as a left hand in the mirror. All of which is related to why the wind goes clockwise around Highs in the NH and counterclockwise in the SH. The SH is the mirror image of the NH.
