extratropical cyclone Any cyclonic-scale storm that is not a tropical cyclone, usually referring only to the migratory frontal cyclones of middle and high latitudes. Also called extratropical low, or in this course, just Low. For a comparison of tropical and extratropical cyclones, see G189.
