latent heat transfer Movement of heat from one place (the ocean, for example) to another (the atmosphere, for example) as a consequence of the phase changes of water. Heat is required for evaporation and sublimation at the earth's surface, and heat is released in condensation and deposition within the atmosphere. See discussion at the end of ART-13 on humidity.
