| speed of advance This term is rarely used in modern small craft navigation. About 20 years ago, some Loran units used this SOA as we now use WCV (waypoint closing velocity), but this is no longer used. Bowditch has these definitions: 1. The speed intended to be made good along the track. 2. The average speed in knots which must be maintained during a passage to arrive at a destination at an appointed time. |
